Puerto Rico Response Respuesta a Puerto Rico
Jason Frazer, Puerto Rico Volunteer Coordinator -Mainland
Letty Damian, Assistant, Puerto Rico Volunteer Coordinator -Mainland
Volunteers are urgently needed to help the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico as they recover from the effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Registrations are now being taken for Early Response Teams (ERT) and Long-Term Recovery (LTR) Teams. ERTs should be in contact with their Conference Disaster Response Coordinator first.
Interested teams are encouraged to visit this link to express their interest in serving:
Additionally, UMCOR will be updating the following webpage with information as it becomes available: http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/puerto-rico-volunteers
All registrations will be received by the Puerto Rico Volunteer Coordinator, based out of the North Central Jurisdiction UMVIM office, who will handle follow-up, screening, and scheduling of teams in conjunction with his counterpart from the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico.
Once a team receives an invitation and confirmation to serve, required insurance can be purchased through the North Central Jurisdiction, North East Jurisdiction, Western Jurisdiction, or Southeast Jurisdiction. The Methodist Church of Puerto Rico requires $50,000 international coverage that includes emergency medical evacuation coverage.
Volunteers must be 18+ and in good physical condition due to environmental and infrastructure concerns on the island. Please read the full set of General Guidelines for Volunteers from the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico.
North Central Jurisdiction teams:
Through a generous grant from the NCJ Mission Council, UMVIMNCJ has funds available to assist with fees for mission teams traveling to Puerto Rico to respond to the effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The first 33 teams registered and scheduled will receive $300 for the translator who will assist the team. When the team leader has dates for travel, contact the UMVIMNCJ coordinator for more information.
